Opening Reception | New Art Exhibition | Carrying On: Abstract Paintings by Rebecca Nerison

A common tendency in the creative process is to focus on outcome instead of process. We create something, and then we compare it to what it “should” have been, or to what others have made, or judge it as “not good enough.” I recognized recently that I have done this most of my life, a habit that has stopped me from many creative pursuits - and needlessly left me the poorer for it. This show represents my intention to re-focus on the process of painting instead of the product – a finished canvas.

Carrying On is about personal growth: acknowledging strengths and weaknesses, recognizing the inner voice that whispers negativity, and then welcoming the voice that says “This is fun, let’s do it anyway!” I choose to act on that voice rather than the naysayer. I choose joy. I hope viewers of these paintings will do the same.
